About The Position

SCHOOL COUNSELOR REPORTS TO: Principal QUALIFICATONS: Educational Services certificate with School Counselor endorsement or School Psychologist certificate. JOB GOAL: To assist all students (K - 8) in developing skills in the area of academic, career and personal/social development needed to be successful in the twenty-first century. PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: Meet affective needs of students Advocate for all students Provide appropriate counseling processes and techniques for individual and group sessions to meet the developmental, preventive and remedial needs of students. Provide opportunities for large group guidance instruction, including classroom and school-wide activities. Provide balanced counseling program, including, but not limited to, self-confidence development decision-making and problem-solving skills, interpersonal communication skills, cross-cultural sensitivity and responsible behavior. Consult and collaborate effectively with students, parents, teachers, child study team members, administration and other school community personnel to assist in meeting the needs of students. Maintain a list of therapeutic resources for parents, staff and community members. Serve as a liaison with DYFS. Adhere to ethical standards of the counseling profession and abide by laws, policies and procedures that govern schools. Participate in professional associations and improve professional knowledge and skills when needed. Self-initiate with effective time and space management. Possess effective written and verbal communication skills. Participate on the school's intervention and Referral Services Team, the District Crisis Team and other committees, as needed. Coordinate report cards, as needed Other duties as assigned by the building principal TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Leave Replacement Position to be established by the Board of Education. EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with Board of Education policy on evaluation of certificated staff. SALARY: $67,725.00 - $72,675.00 Salary Commensurates with Experience
