About The Position

To promote student success through the implementation of a comprehensive counseling program that addresses the needs of students in the areas of personal-social growth, educational planning, and career and vocational development.

Requirements

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals consistent with the duties of this position
  • Ability to compose and write routine reports consistent with the duties of this position
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from administrators, staff and the general public consistent with the duties of this position
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Familiarity with basic computer operation and software.
  • Ability to learn various computer operations required for management of student information and integration of technology in classroom instruction.
  • Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional program
  • Ability to plan and implement lessons based on division and school objectives and the needs and abilities of students to whom assigned.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, peers and parents
  • Skill in oral and written communication.

Responsibilities

  • Program Planning: Establishes the school counseling program and develops activities and resources to implement and evaluate the program. Involves other school staff in making decisions about the school counseling program.
  • Counseling: Provides individual and group counseling services to meet the developmental, preventive and remedial needs of students.
  • Consulting: Consults with students, parents, teachers, and other school and community personnel to assist in meeting the needs of students.
  • Coordinating: Coordinates all counseling services for students and assists with the coordination and implementation of student services in the school. Assists teachers with the Guidance Curriculum.
  • Student Appraisal: Accurately interprets test results and other student data. Assists teachers with the educational placement of students by using appropriate educational assessment strategies.
  • Professional Practices and Development: Adheres to ethical standards of the counseling profession, and abides by the laws, policies, and procedures that govern the schools. Participates in professional associations and upgrades professional knowledge and skills when needed.
