About The Position

The School Counselor at Friends Academy will support the Pre-K through grade 12 student population by promoting their cognitive, social, behavioral, and emotional development. This role involves collaboration with various stakeholders, including the Senior Psychologist, parents, teachers, and administrators, to ensure student success. The counselor will provide consultation, assessment, evaluation, counseling, and intervention services, while also engaging in parent education and instruction.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in School Psychology, Counseling, or a related field is required.
  • Relevant years of experience in counseling and student life is required.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to use technology effectively.
  • Deep knowledge of child development, learning differences, resources, and current trends in the field.
  • Child-centered, collegial, passionate, and innovative.
  • Experience working in an independent school setting as a teacher and/or counselor.
  • Alignment with the school's Quaker Mission and values.
  • Professional, collaborative, organized, and deeply committed to process.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a critical member of each division's Student Success Teams.
  • Provide consultation services as requested by school personnel, parents/guardians, and school administrators to support student development and well-being.
  • Participate in CSE meetings as needed.
  • Provide individual and/or group counseling, behavior modification techniques, crisis intervention, and conflict resolution services.
  • Serve as a liaison between school personnel and related service providers.
  • Create and maintain thorough and timely reports, data, and other related records.
  • Function as a case manager for all referred students.
  • Create and implement parent education and partnership events related to student life growth and social-emotional progress as needed.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities, including teaching, as needed.
