About The Position

The internship for graduate students provides supervision from PDE Level II Certified School Counselor(s). Options for internships include two semesters (full year) or 1 semester (half year) starting in the beginning of the school year, to satisfy required experiences and hours. Internship sites include access to K-12th grade experiences. This internship is designed to meet the minimum hourly requirements for the intern to receive certification in the Pennsylvania School Counseling Internship experiences include direct and indirect school counseling opportunities. Delivery of services in which the intern provides includes classroom lessons and center-based sites. School Counselor interns use a Multi-tiered System of Support (MTSS) to support all (ASCA) which focus on Academics, Social Emotional Development, and Career-Planning, by aligning delivery of services to the ASCA Mindsets and Behavior standards and comprehensive school counseling program.

Requirements

  • Graduate student within an accredited college/university program. Must have practicuum experience.
  • Basic knowledge of counseling practices, core competencies, and ethics
  • Positive interpersonal skills
  • Effective time management skills
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to work to manage within environment with varied stressors
  • Citizenship or work authorization to work in the United States required.
  • To be hired for this position you will need the required PA clearances to be dated no more than one year prior to your employment start date.

Responsibilities

  • Delivery of Classroom counseling lessons
  • Provides Group and Individual counseling related to academics, career-planning, and social emotional development.
  • Provides and assesses peer mediation, conflict resolution, bullying prevention and interventions.
  • Crisis, Risk and Threat Interventions
  • Provides professional development for staff and educational partners.
  • Transcript assessments
  • Provides prevention and intervention.
  • Attends IEP meetings and team meetings to advocate, collaborate, and consult in the best interest of the students.
  • Attends and advocates within IEP meetings, specific to Transition Planning to support Alignment to ACT 158.
