About The Position

LOCATION: Hommocks Middle School The Mamaroneck Union Free School District seeks collaborative, equity-minded employees who commit to develop knowledge, skills, and practices to create culturally responsive learning and working environments. RESPONSIBILITIES: Plan, prepare and deliver school counselor services that are culturally responsive and relevant and that facilitate the social-emotional well-being of students. Conduct ongoing assessment of school counseling services and programs to fit individual student needs.Promote a school environment and counseling space that is safe, welcoming, inclusive, and affirming for all students.Communicate with the Instructional Support Team, 504 committee, Committee for Special Education, and parents regarding student progress and areas for growth.Manage multiple students, tasks, and needs throughout the day, which will involve active participation and engagement throughout the building during the school day.Provide coverage and student supervision when needed.Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with colleagues.Support all students with diverse needs (ENL, IEP, 504, etc.).Provide guidance to students to help navigate school and social situations, which will include facilitating/participating in student conflict resolution practices, mediations, and other restorative practices.Encourage family involvement in each student's education and ensure effective communication with students and families around student wellbeing, school success/achievement, school engagement and attendance, etc..Work in a collaborative school environment, including communication and collaboration with colleagues, staff, students, families, and administration. Communicate effectively orally and in writing.Attend and participate in evening counseling events.Proactively monitor and maintain student records to ensure support of social/emotional or academic plans/accommodations, etc.Provide up-to-date support and resources to address student needs/concerns to students, families, and staff.Develop student schedules in collaboration with students, families, staff, administration.Meet professional school counselor requirements of school, district and state.Other duties as assigned by the coordinator of counseling and the Hommocks leadership team. POSITION QUALIFICATIONS: In depth knowledge of social emotional learning approaches and experience in implementing SEL to cultivate a school and counseling space that is affirming, inclusive, and welcoming.Thorough knowledge of the NYS School Counselor standards.Knowledge of the RTI process and ability to effectively communicate with the Instructional Support Team and parents regarding student progress and areas for growth.Demonstrated knowledge of NYS Culturally Responsive-Sustaining Frameworks. Ability to analyze data to improve counseling practices and student learning outcomes and wellbeing.Ability to engage in self-reflection with regard to performance and professional growth; actively seeks professional learning opportunities.Middle School Counselor Experience and in-depth knowledge of supporting young adolescents. Possession of appropriate New York State School Counselor Certification.
