About The Position

The School Counselor - Lead position at Tooele County School District is designed to support students' academic, behavioral, and mental health needs. Under the supervision of the building Principal and Counseling & Social Services Director, the counselor will provide guidance on educational and career opportunities, administer assessments, and assist students in developing their educational and occupational goals. The role emphasizes collaboration with staff, parents, and the community to foster student growth and readiness for college and careers.

Requirements

  • Master's degree from an accredited college or university in School Counseling Education discipline
  • Current Utah School Counseling License or ability to obtain one
  • Successful prior counseling experience for the appropriate grade level preferred
  • Knowledge of Utah model for school counseling
  • Knowledge of current developments in business and industry regarding career opportunities
  • Knowledge of differentiated instruction based on student learning styles
  • Knowledge of data information systems and data analysis
  • Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students
  • Knowledge of conducting group and individual counseling
  • Knowledge of Social Emotional Learning
  • Ability to teach lessons in a classroom setting
  • Ability to use computer network systems and software applications
  • Ability to organize and coordinate work
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents
  • Ability to engage in self-evaluation for performance and professional growth
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with students with special needs
  • Familiarity with Utah FERPA law and guidelines

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and deliver classroom lessons
  • Assess student needs to support group counseling
  • Support student academic, behavior, and mental health needs
  • Introduce students to college and career readiness
  • Coordinate with administrators and teaching staff to ascertain individual student's abilities and needs
  • Assist with the school district's dropout prevention efforts
  • Provide counseling to promote personal growth and self-understanding
  • Acquire professional knowledge through seminars and workshops
  • Organize and maintain accurate student records
  • Encourage parental involvement in students' education
  • Assist in the orientation of new teachers and provide in-service training in guidance
  • Support the implementation of SEL curriculum and behaviors
  • Perform other related tasks as assigned by the Principal and other administrators
