About The Position

The School Counselor at IDEA Najim College Prep plays a crucial role in leading family engagement, social emotional learning programs, and coordinating mental health and counseling supports for students. This position is focused on ensuring that all staff build authentic relationships with students and families, driving campus strategies to support student success. The counselor is responsible for data maintenance and analysis to implement effective school-based interventions, ensuring a safe and supportive environment for all students. This is a grant-funded position with no guarantee of ongoing employment.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in School Counseling, Counseling, Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapy, or related field required.
  • Valid TX School Counselor certification or counseling/social work licensure required.
  • Previous experience in a school or school setting preferred.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to manage student behavior and adapt to various situations in the school environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with data management and analysis in an educational setting.
  • Familiarity with social emotional learning curricula.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the execution of the school vision for retaining all students by managing all stakeholders in family engagement and student persistence.
  • Provide individual/group counseling for at-risk students and refer them to specialized services as needed.
  • Plan and execute student and family engagement events that align with the school's culture and community needs.
  • Lead professional development for staff to clarify roles in family engagement.
  • Manage campus student persistence data to ensure accuracy and reporting.
  • Conduct parent conversations to meet the needs of students and families in collaboration with the campus team.
  • Develop teachers to work effectively with all students and families.
  • Direct the implementation of state-mandated guidance lessons to develop life skills and resilience.
  • Conduct individual and group check-ins with students to address social-emotional issues.
  • Administer surveys to gather feedback from parents and students on communication and events.
