About The Position

REPORTS TO: Site Director PROGRAM SUPERVISOR: Regional Director for Student Services Hourly rate: $45.50, 10 hours per week QUALIFICATIONS: Valid Georgia School Counselor certificate Working knowledge of school counseling in a high school setting High school experience preferred Excellent knowledge of mental health concerns of teenagers and young adults Ability to take direction and perform tasks independently DUTIES: Student Services Attend and participate in monthly Student Services Meetings as part of the site student services team (Tier II and III sites). Regularly communicate with Mentors and/or Mentor Facilitator to be aware of student needs and concerns. (Tier II and III sites). Counselors at Tier I sites perform duties of the Mentor Facilitator including: Collaborate with Regional Student Services Coordinator to train new mentors. Monitor mentor weekly activities with students. Assign every full-time Foothills student a mentor. Make reassignments when mentor/mentee relationship needs to be reassigned (mentor resigns, poor match, etc). Send weekly emails to mentors with information they need to convey to their mentees. Survey mentor contact logs. Make referrals to School Social Worker as necessary via SWARM. Collaborate with other student services staff at Tier II and III sites to plan and implement activities to meet student needs and site goals. Tier I sites may collaborate with neighboring sites. Activities may include Senior Night; College Night; Career Night; FTE Nights; Financial Aid Workshops; FAFSA Workshops; Job Information Workshops; Dual Enrollment Night. Academic Guidance/Enrollment Meet with entering students and parent/guardian(s) and facilitate orientation/enrollment. For enrolled students, conduct initial evaluation of transcript and evaluate credits needed for graduation and then create the graduation checklist. Assign new courses for entering enrolled students. Program student courses are decided by the resident district. Assign appropriate courses for students who complete courses per graduation requirements and facilitate course completion forms. Maintain communication with students about what courses they are taking and why. Maintain a "Hot List" of Enrolled and Foothills+ students nearing graduation (3 or less credits left) and collaborate with other Student Services staff to provide intensive support through graduation. Provide regular updates and communication to the Program Student Facilitator on progress and needs of program students. As a part of the Hot List induction, create a Senior Grad Review report on each Enrolled and Foothills+ student in Infinite Campus to monitor progress toward graduation. Engage in conversations with students and parents regarding educational and career planning. Facilitates the implementation of Foothills Section 504 procedures from referral to plan. Schedule, coordinate, and attend all Section 504 meetings for students Monitors the implementation of Accommodation Plans for all 504 students Maintains Section 504 records and adheres to all required Section 504 timelines Schedule, Coordinate, and Attend all Tier 3 Multi Tiered System of Support meetings for students. Postsecondary and Career Guidance Counselors at Tier I sites will perform all functions related to the role of Career Specialist including: Upon enrollment, check to see if enrolling students have completed You Science at previous high school, and if so, obtain results. Monitor and assist students in completing You Science who have not yet completed it within the first 30 days of enrollment. Upon completion of You Science or receiving past results, meet with students to help to develop their career/graduation plan using the You Science Workbook. Assist students with developing their post-secondary plan based on career goals, interests and needs: 4-year institution, 2-year institution, apprenticeship, military, or workforce. Plan workplace field trips, job shadowing, career speakers, and career field trips. Annually engage in Advisement Conversations with students regarding educational and career planning- may be in small groups or individual meetings. Counselors at Tier II and III sites will support the Career Specialist to meet the responsibilities of the Top State for Talent Act. Counsel students about post-secondary plans and assist them with necessary tests such as ASVAB, Compass, SAT, ACT, PSAT, and ACCUPLACER. Arrange for fee waivers, if necessary, and work to ensure that students sit for the tests. In consultation with Regional Counseling and Dual Enrollment Coordinator, inform all students about dual enrolment opportunities annually. Assist in the monitoring of dual enrolled students to identify and remove barriers and to intervene with appropriate support as needed. Be the liaison between Foothills and the colleges where our students are dual enrolled. Assist students with access to scholarship and financial aid opportunities. Regularly assist students, individually or in groups, with developing academic, career and social emotional/social skills, goals and plans. Student Support Provide mental health support to students in crisis and assist with Suicide Intervenion Plan work when necessary. Identify students with severe health or mental health needs who may need services through HEAL (Hospital or Home Environment Access to Learning) and connect them to those supports. Assist in communication with parent/guardian(s) as appropriate to support students. Serve as the point of contact for any REACH scholars. Internal Support and Professional Development Provide Site Director with appropriate data as requested. Use available technology resources to enhance the school counseling program and stay up-to-date on all state requirements.
