About The Position
The Elementary School Counselor (Long Term Substitute) position at Ethel Boyes Elementary is designed to support the delivery of School District 91's curriculum and maximize student achievement. The counselor will assist students whose school performance is negatively impacted by emotional, behavioral, or social difficulties. This role requires a valid Idaho Pupil Personnel Services license with a Standard Counselor K-12 or School Social Worker endorsement, along with a Master's Degree in Guidance and Counseling or Social Work from an accredited university. The counselor will work closely with students, staff, parents, and the community to provide a supportive environment for student success. The counselor's primary responsibilities include collecting and assessing information about students with specific needs, providing input to Multi-Disciplinary and IEP teams, and consulting with parents and staff. They will develop behavior improvement plans, provide individual or small group counseling, and monitor student progress, making necessary modifications to interventions. In addition, the counselor will provide crisis intervention for various situations, including student behavior problems, emotional impacts from school-related incidents, and child protection referrals. Facilitating school success is another key aspect of this role, which includes providing instruction in organizational skills, interpersonal skills, drug education, and communication skills. The counselor will also assist students in transitioning between schools, particularly from elementary to junior high. They will serve on various teams, provide information about counseling services, and seek opportunities for professional growth while maintaining high ethical standards and confidentiality of student information. This position is temporary and scheduled during the school year, with benefits in accordance with board policy and salary based on classified salary placement for long-term substitute teachers.
