About The Position

The School Counselor is responsible for supporting the educational and social-emotional development of Trinity students, ages three years through Second Grade, by providing guidance, support, and training to students, parents, and faculty/staff and remaining current with emerging research and best practices.

Requirements

  • Masters’ Degree in School Counseling
  • Experience working with elementary-age children and families (independent school preferred)
  • Ability to read, interpret, and apply psychoeducational evaluation results to support student learning.
  • Ability to analyze a student admissions file and contribute meaningfully to admissions committee discussions and decision making.
  • Adhere to laws, policies, procedures, and ethical standards of the school counseling profession, including formal reporting to outside agencies

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with the Early Childhood Mental Health Consultation model and Positive Discipline (preferred)

Responsibilities

  • Work and collaborate with the school consulting psychologist and the UED School Counselor
  • Collaborate with Division Heads and Learning Team on outside student testing
  • Collaborate with Division Heads and appropriate staff to support students and create action plans as needed
  • Implement action plans and assist with communication protocols (in conjunction with the Director of Communications) in times of crisis or emergencies
  • Ability to read, interpret, and apply psychoeducational evaluation results to support student learning.
  • Ability to analyze a student admissions file and contribute meaningfully to admissions committee discussions and decision making.
  • Adhere to laws, policies, procedures, and ethical standards of the school counseling profession, including formal reporting to outside agencies
  • Assist students, individually or in groups, with developing social-emotional skills and habits
  • Observe and support students as needed
  • Form and conduct friendship and social skills groups regularly
  • Observe and participate in morning meetings
  • Collaborate with faculty and administration on behavior-related issues and strategies (though not involved in formal student discipline)
  • Consult with teachers and/or parents about student issues.
  • In collaboration with consulting psychologist, provide resources for outside support when needed and implement an effective referral and follow-up process.
  • Facilitate and provide professional development and instructional coaching to faculty
  • Provide parent education presentations on pertinent child development topics
