About The Position

The Perry Local Schools desires to employ a certificated or licensed school counselor and behavior specialist at the elementary school. The job duties of the School Counselor and Behavior Specialist will include, but not be limited to, the following: Provide individual or small-group academic and social�emotional instruction (self-regulation, problem-solving, coping skills). Create and progress-monitor behavior intervention plans (BIPs) and support plans Be a resource to parents who need assistance with the academic, social, behavioral, and emotional needs of their children. Teach state-mandated personal safety lessons in conjunction with elementary staff. Conduct new student interviews, lunches, and family contacts. Participate in decision-making within the Response to Intervention (RtI) process and Positive Behavior Intervention Supports (PBIS) initiative. Assist classroom teachers with interventions and strategies for struggling students. Coordinate care and facilitate services necessary to support the social-emotional needs of children. Advocate to support the needs of the whole child Participate in Professional Learning Communities and necessary professional development. Coordinate, write, and update annual 504 plans. Collaborate on accommodations for students with behavioral needs. Assist with grade-level transitions for students, including transition to the middle school. Conduct behavior observations and help identify triggers, patterns, and skill gaps. Support students during behavioral crises or escalations. Supervise the Calming/De-escalation classroom. Help students transition back to class after behavioral incidents. Consult with teachers on classroom management strategies. Model behavior interventions and de-escalation techniques. Help design proactive classroom systems and routines. Provide coaching on reinforcement systems, expectations, and responses to behavior.

Requirements

  • Valid Ohio licensure in one or more of the following areas: School Counselor (Pupil Services License) Intervention Specialist License (K�12 or Mild/Moderate) Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) credential
  • Evidence of successful completion of licensure examinations, if applicable

  • Preference may be given to candidates with interest and proficiency in working with elementary school students and parents/guardians
  • Familiar with the community resources available to meet the social, emotional, behavioral, and academic needs of elementary school students/families
  • Technologically literate
