About The Position

The School Counselor will promote the school system's counseling program by possessing the knowledge, abilities, skills, and attitudes necessary to plan, organize, implement and evaluate a comprehensive, developmental, results-based school counseling program. The counselor will provide system support through effective school counseling program management and support for other educational programs, offering direct and indirect services with and for students. The role includes providing responsive services through individual and small-group counseling, consultation, and referral skills, as well as implementing school counseling curriculum through effective instructional skills and careful planning of structured group sessions.

Requirements

  • Hold or be eligible for a Georgia Educator Certificate in School Counseling.
  • Ability to work well with students, parents, staff, and the community.
  • Exceptional integrity and commitment to confidentiality.
  • Must abide by the Georgia Professional Standards Code of Ethics for Educators.
  • Ability to be present at the physical worksite.
  • Must perform tasks involving prolonged periods of standing, walking, and sitting.
  • Must perform routine physical activities such as bending and lifting/pushing/pulling up to 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to properly supervise students during emergency situations.
  • Vision, hearing, written, and verbal communications are essential.

Responsibilities

  • Promote the school system's counseling program.
  • Provide direct and indirect services with and for students.
  • Conduct group counseling/advisement with students in educational, career, and social-emotional areas.
  • Coordinate with local school staff to provide supportive instructional classroom activities.
  • Assist with interpretation of standardized group testing.
  • Ensure all students receive appropriate career and college readiness advisement.
  • Consult with school staff and parents on student problems and concerns.
  • Promote the use of community resources in meeting student needs.
  • Engage in professional development activities.
  • Interact professionally with students, parents, and colleagues.
  • Maintain confidentiality of students and school business.
  • Conduct counseling activities at scheduled times.
  • Support policies concerning student conduct and discipline.
  • Evaluate transcripts and review records for student advisement.
  • Follow the system's procedures in referring students to a local school support team.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
