About The Position

The School Cook prepares a variety of foods that are student-friendly, nutritious and appealing. The School Cook will oversee the serving line and will keep the kitchen clean and organized.

Requirements

  • 3-5 years’ experience working in a foodservice setting as a cook .Knowledge of cooking techniques
  • ServSafe Mandatory or Local food safety certification
  • Working knowledge of all cooking procedures and recipe adherence and portion control.
  • Ability to effectively communicate verbally
  • Physical Requirements: Able to lift/transfer a minimum of 50 pounds, be agile, physically pursue clients on foot, physically restrain, bend, squat, stretch, reach, push up and stand for several hours at a time.
  • Prior to employment references, criminal clearances, and child abuse clearances are required.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares and cooks a variety of meals, including sandwiches, salads, soups, and entrees, ensuring they meet nutritional standards.
  • Ensures all food is cooked and stored safely according to local county regulations, cooked and presented with care
  • Provides excellent customer service to students and staff. Addressing any meal-related concerns and assisting those who need help.
  • Maintains a clean and organized kitchen workspace, support special dietary needs and food allergy safety procedures
  • Prepares bagged meals on school trips when needed
  • Maintains all paperwork for the site kitchen. Record refrigerator/freezer temperatures, cooking temperatures.
  • Helps supervise and participate in the cleaning and storage of cafeteria utensils, food serving equipment, food preparation equipment, supplies, and facilities
  • Delivers food to other sites when needed
  • Rotates stock in food storage areas
  • Works directly with the School foodservice Manger on inventory control and operation needs.
  • Maintains effective communications and working relationships with co-workers and foodservice manager.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
