About The Position

The Mental Health Therapist position is responsible for providing a wide array of culturally sensitive, recovery oriented, trauma sensitive direct clinical services to individuals with mental health, substance use and co-occurring challenges. The Mental Health Therapist position will provide psychotherapy services primarily to children/adolescents within the school and clinic setting. The position will be divided between Family Based Services (FBS) and Behavioral Health in Schools (BHS). Primary clinical duties include completion of strengths-based, culturally sensitive assessment, diagnosis, treatment planning, case management and direct clinical services that may include individual, group, and family counseling. This position reports directly to (Clinical Team Manager). The minimum combined annual service hours are 432. Requirements

  • Possession of a valid driver’s license, a favorable driving record, adequate insurance (per state law), and access to a vehicle.
  • 1+ of experience in related behavioral health field.
  • Commitment to work toward improving cultural sensitivity.
  • Strong commitment to principles of recovery and to facilitating consumer participation in treatment/service planning and provision.
  • Knowledge and/or experience with the use of evidence-based practices for treatment of substance use disorders and co-occurring disorders across the lifespan.
  • Experience in community-based mental health and co-occurring assessments, case management, treatment planning and crisis resolution.
  • Ability to communicate effectively (both orally and in writing).
  • Ability to work effectively with an interdisciplinary team with a positive and creative attitude.
  • Ability to work independently and remain organized and efficient.
  • Superior ethics and interpersonal boundaries as evidenced by past experience in community-based work with related professional references.

Nice To Haves

  • Licensure as a Substance Abuse Counselor in Training, Clinical Substance Abuse Counselor or Substance Abuse Counselor.
  • Bilingual (must be able to pass Alta Language Proficiency Test) Spanish Hmong Khmer American Sign Language (ASL)

Responsibilities

  • Provides a range of clinical services such as therapy/counseling, service coordination, evaluate and diagnose mental health and/or co-occurring issues, support and referrals in a context that is supportive of the consumer’s culture, values, beliefs, and perspectives.
  • Completes accurate clinical records including intakes, assessments, treatment plans and updates, progress notes, discharge summaries and other information in a timely manner.
  • Maintains minimum direct and case management service hour expectations.
  • Works collaboratively with team members and takes a leadership role in service planning, and work with community agencies to develop and maintain efficient use of community services
  • Provide school-based therapeutic services for students in grades K through 5th with mental health needs and their families. (75%)
  • Provide education/consultation/support to school staff regarding supporting students with mental health needs (25%).
  • Participate in relevant school staff meetings and provide education, consultation, and support to school staff in relation to student mental health needs by ensuring program effectiveness by meeting regularly with relevant school staff and Behavioral Health Staff
  • Provide classroom observation of students when appropriate to guide treatment planning and assistance to school staff.
  • Assist in collecting required program data and reporting relevant information to stakeholders and participation in the Performance and Quality Improvement Process as appropriate
  • Attends team meetings, staff meetings, in-services, JMHC Committees, trainings and activities as directed
