About The Position

The Bus Driver at Texas Leadership Public Schools is responsible for ensuring the safe and orderly transportation of students on assigned routes. This role involves operating a school bus that transports students and other authorized personnel to and from schools or other designated locations. The position requires adherence to established schedules and compliance with all traffic laws and safety regulations for school buses.

Requirements

• Must possess a valid Texas Commercial Driver's License and outstanding driving record
• Must possess a valid Texas School Bus Driving Safety certificate
• Must have an up-to-date medical physical
• Knowledge of highway and school bus regulations
• Ability to deal with the various needs of children
• Familiarity with scheduling and record keeping systems
• Analytical and problem-solving skills
• Time management skills
• Effective listening, verbal and written communication skills

Responsibilities

• Follow assigned route and adhere to established schedules
• Perform daily safety and maintenance checks and keep supervisory informed of any issues
• Report all accidents, vehicle damage, student injuries, and mechanical failures; compile required reports
• Perform minor maintenance duties and keep assigned bus clean and fueled
• Take student attendance on the school bus
• Ensure students board and leave the bus safely and cross the street in an orderly manner
• Instruct students on safe riding rules and regulations
• Maintain discipline and communicate with teachers and parents regarding student behavior while on the bus
• Observe all traffic laws and safety regulations for school buses
• Maintain all emergency equipment, such as first aid kit, fire extinguisher, flags, fuses, crow bar, and reflector
• Correct unsafe conditions in the work area that could cause an accident and inform supervisory of any conditions that are not correctable immediately
• Install snow chains during inclement weather
• Properly communicate with the transportation office
• Operate bus during irregular hours as needed
• Keep safety certification current through required training programs
• Demonstrate honesty, trustworthiness, and respect
• Exhibit sound work ethics and cultural sensitivity
• Be flexible
