About The Position

The School-Based Therapist provides mental health counseling, crisis intervention, and supportive services to students within participating school districts. The therapist works collaboratively with school personnel, families, and community providers to promote student well-being, enhance academic engagement, and address barriers that may impact learning. This position is employed by the East Central Ohio Educational Service Center (ECOESC) and is assigned to Noble Local School District.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, or related field.
  • Current Ohio licensure (LSW, LPC, LPCC, LISW, or equivalent).
  • Ability to obtain appropriate credentialing and clearances for school-based practice.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and collaborative skills.
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Successful completion of current BCI/FBI background checks
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Skilled in assessment and data gathering by multiple means, including interview, observation, standardized assessments, surveys and focus groups
  • Coordination of social services
  • Relationship-building between systems and providers
  • Efficient and effective time management skills
  • Proficient in typical school technology, software and assistive technology (communication devices)
  • Ability to interact in a positive manner with staff, students, and parents
  • Makes contact with the public with tact and diplomacy
  • Promotes good public relations through personal appearance, attitude and conversation
  • Collaborates with various school personnel
  • Promotes the District’s mission, vision, values and philosophy

Responsibilities

  • Provide individual and small-group counseling to students addressing emotional, behavioral, and social needs.
  • Conduct screenings, assessments, and treatment planning in accordance with professional standards and ECOESC policies.
  • Deliver evidence-based mental health interventions aligned with a Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS).
  • Identify barriers to student learning and work collaboratively with school staff and families to address social, emotional, and behavioral needs that impact academic success.
  • Collaborate with school administrators, prevention specialists, teachers, and support staff to coordinate student care and support services.
  • Connect students and families with appropriate school and community resources and develop partnerships with community providers to strengthen support networks.
  • Provide crisis intervention and risk assessments as needed, following district and ECOESC safety protocols.
  • Monitor student progress and evaluate the effectiveness of interventions using assessment data and evidence-based practices.
  • Maintain accurate and timely student and program documentation in accordance with state law, ECOESC policies, and confidentiality requirements (FERPA/HIPAA), and support program evaluation and district planning efforts.
  • Communicate with parents or guardians to support treatment goals and encourage family engagement.
  • Advocate for students to ensure equitable access to educational and mental health supports that reduce barriers to learning.
  • Participate in required supervision, team meetings, and professional development activities.
  • Serve as a resource for school staff on mental health, prevention, and student support strategies.
  • Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information and ensure the safety and well-being of students at all times.
  • Uphold ethical, legal, and professional standards of practice and serve as a positive role model for students.
  • Provides clinical diagnostics and treatment consigned with professional training, certification and licensure.
  • Participates in Special Education and 504 meetings, and other student case conferences
  • Follows all directives contained in the Licensure Code of Professional Conduct for Ohio Educators and board policy
  • Performs all other duties as required or requested by the building principal
  • Maintains licensure, practices ethically and within the law
