About The Position

The Attending Psychiatrist is responsible for providing psychiatric evaluations, formulations, and direct clinical care, which could be in the following environments: Crisis, Emergency, Inpatient, Outpatient, Consults, Community, and/or Outreach. The Attending Psychiatrists are members of the team who include psychiatric social workers and other mental health professionals and work in conjunction with psychologists. An important component of the role of the Attending Psychiatrist is to consult with various teams regarding the assessment, management, and disposition of patients with major medical and co-occurring psychiatric problems. The Attending Psychiatrists will provide treatment at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia and will be responsible for providing evaluations and treatment to children, adolescents, and their families. They are responsible for supporting the clinical and administrative operations. A primary focus will be in the areas of assessment and pharmacological treatment of youth with psychiatric disorders as well as continued care of patients treated during their Inpatient, Emergent, Community or Outpatient visit.

Requirements

  • Doctorate Medical Doctor (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) Required.
  • Board Certification - Medical Sub/Specialty - Child and Adolescent Psychiatry - within 36 months - Required.
  • Medical License - Pennsylvania State Licensing Board - upon hire - Required.

  • DEA License - Pennsylvania State Licensing Board - upon hire - Preferred.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team (Preferred proficiency).
  • Communication skills needed to present goals clearly. (Preferred proficiency).
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with children, adolescents, and families. (Preferred proficiency).

Responsibilities

  • Practice opportunities include Crisis, Emergency, Inpatient, Outpatient, Consults, Community, and Outreach.
  • Teams are comprised of Clinicians (psychiatrists, psychologists, advanced practice providers, social workers, Board Certified Behavioral Analyst), nursing, and learners of all levels (medical students, resident physicians, fellows, and nurse practitioners).
  • Provide assessment and treatment of children, adolescents and their families in a manner consistent with the policies and procedures of the Department of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.
  • Comply with the documentation requirements of the Department of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Support the policies and procedures of the Department of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.
  • Support the quality initiatives and budgetary goals set for the department.
  • Regularly participate in clinical and administrative meetings related to the operations of the Department of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.
  • Provide supervision and teaching for the Child Psychiatry residents, general psychiatry residents, other specialties requiring psychiatry training, and medical students.
  • Comply with scheduling and billing practices of the Department of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.
  • Support implementation of information systems to support clinical care needs, patient appointment scheduling and processing, and patient documentation.
  • Participate in the identification and implementation of opportunities to enhance patient and family satisfaction.
  • Participate in efforts to ensure compliance with Joint Commission standards and other applicable accreditation and regulatory standards.
