About The Position

The YMCA of Delaware is seeking a School Age Administrator to address the emotional, cognitive, social, and physical needs of children in our Before/After Care program. This role involves effective communication with parents and ensuring that every youth and teen served is on a pathway to success. The administrator will supervise children and activities, provide daily care, and implement positive behavior management techniques while fostering a safe and engaging environment for learning and development.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 20 years of age.
  • High school diploma or equivalent recognized by DOE.
  • Completion of at least 12 college or university credits in relevant fields and six months experience working with children in a group.
  • Completion of at least 6 college or university credits in relevant fields and the school-age bundle offered by the Delaware Institute for Excellence in Early Childhood and six months experience working with children in a group.
  • Completion of the school-age bundle offered by the Delaware Institute for Excellence in Early Childhood and twelve months experience working with children in a group.
  • Complete a physical & tuberculosis screening and provide a physician's documentation within 30 days of hire.
  • Successful completion of a comprehensive criminal history, child abuse & adult abuse background check.
  • Proficient active listening skills.
  • Patience and compassion suitable for working with young children.
  • Ability to provide activities for children that encourage healthy development.
  • Ability to exercise control and maintain classroom discipline.
  • Ability to provide a supportive and caring environment for children and staff.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Bring consistency and build quality to the Before/After Care program by being on-site 50% of the program's operating hours.
  • Supervise the site(s), children, group(s), and all activities as assigned while exhibiting safe, healthy, developmentally appropriate childcare practices.
  • Provide daily care for children including feeding and supporting social/emotional needs.
  • Encourage, engage, and support children in all classroom activities including instructional times, mealtimes, transitions, and gross motor.
  • Implement positive behavior management techniques.
  • Plan, implement and actively participate in daily age-appropriate classroom activities to ensure all children are provided an opportunity to learn.
  • Observe children and document their progress and development.
  • Communicate effectively with co-workers, branch administration, and parents to develop & maintain positive relationships.
  • Ensure all members receive exceptional experience by meeting the needs of the customer in a timely and polite manner.
  • Ensure the facility and all equipment/supplies are clean, well-maintained, and free of hazards daily.
  • Complete and maintain required program documentation including children's attendance, meal counts, emergency drills, and daily parent communication.
  • Attend and actively participate in family nights, program activities, staff meetings, and ongoing professional development trainings.
