About The Position

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Consistent with the Christian mission and vision of the YMCA of Memphis & the Mid-South, and in cooperation with other YMCA staff, under the direction of the School Age Site Director, the part-time School Age Group Leader is responsible for implementing activities and executing daily lesson plans for the School Age Before and After School sites and Summer Programs. The School Age Group Leader will work with other site staff to foster children’s social, physical, spiritual, and mental growth.

Requirements

• Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people
• Professional image and conflict resolution skills
• Highly organized with the ability to work under pressure
• Ability to maintain confidentiality of information
• Minimum 18 years of age
• High school diploma or equivalent required
• Must complete all state and school district mandated background checks and fingerprint clearances

Nice To Haves

• Experience working with children in a group setting
• Previous experience in a leadership role
• Knowledge of child development principles

Responsibilities

• Model the YMCA core values: Caring, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility
• Set up and take down program space to create a child-friendly environment
• Actively lead and engage a group of 15 to 20 children in activities outlined by the Site Director
• Follow all safety standards and risk management policies
• Assist in planning and implementing a quality curriculum that meets YMCA guidelines
• Attend all staff meetings and in-service training as required
• Assist in controlling and maintaining supplies and inventory on site
• Assist in monitoring licensing standards at the School Age site
• Maintain positive relationships with YMCA personnel and administration and school staff
• Assist in maintaining citywide policies and procedures
• Assume duties as directed by the Site Director
