About The Position

Do you enjoy driving? Horizon is looking for experienced drivers to transport children to and from school and our childcare centers, and on field trips during breaks and summer. For over 46 years, Horizon has been at the forefront of providing high-quality care and education, significantly shaping the lives of children. Horizon offers programs for children 6 weeks to 14 years of age. Our Mission: to provide high-quality early childhood education, care, and youth development programs. Horizon Education Centers proudly serves a range of communities in Cleveland, Elyria, Lorain, North Olmsted, Berea, Parma, and Lakewood. These primary communities are at the heart of our commitment to early childhood education. School Age Driver Location Currently Hiring: North Olmsted, Dewhurst in Elyria, and Cascade in Elyria (M-F - hours to be determined) Triskett Station in Cleveland: 7am until 9:30am and 1:30pm until 4:30pm M-F Shoreway Center in Cleveland: 7:30am until 9:30am and 2:30pm until 4:30pm M-F Wage Information: Pay rate of $16.50 per hour Reports to: Center Director Hours: 7am until 9:30am and/or 1:30pm or 2pm until 4:30pm, Monday through Friday. Hours may adjust to meet specific site hours. Some locations may have opportunities to work until 6pm with school-age children as well.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required
  • MUST be 21 years of age and have a current license with a clean driving record (no more than 4 points) to drive Horizon, training provided. Drivers must be licensed for a minimum of 5 years.
  • Must be able to adapt quickly to changing environments and assignments as required
  • Must be able to lift and carry a minimum of 40 lbs. as required
  • Must be able to pass background checks and physical/ medical screening as required

Nice To Haves

  • Some training, experience and/or interest in child development preferred
  • Willingness to update job knowledge with required training, DCY licensing rules and SUTQ professional development opportunities, and industry trends
  • We seek someone who is prompt and reliable and who possesses a genuine love of children

Responsibilities

  • Drive 14-passenger school minibus and/or 6-passenger minivans. (No CDL required)
  • Responsible for the care and supervision of children at all times in accordance with licensing standards and best practices
  • Work as part of a team with other teachers, leads, center staff and the director
  • Assist in documentation for attendance and transportation services provided
  • Build positive relationships with children, families and other staff members through prompt and accurate response and service, cheerful and professional attitude, and problem-solving spirit
  • Seasonal requirements would include field trips, additional destination trips, and supervision of the children during the event
  • Bus inspections, maintaining of mileage log, and bus cleaning is required
  • Maintain professionalism and confidentiality with personnel and family information
  • All other duties as needed/assigned
