About The Position

The Center Assistant plays a vital role in supporting the educational and developmental needs of school-age children in a safe and nurturing environment. This part-time position involves assisting the Lead Teacher in creating engaging learning experiences, maintaining a clean and organized space, and fostering positive relationships with children and families. The role is essential in preparing children for school and enriching their lives through play and structured activities.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Successful completion of a portable background check (PBC) and clearance through the Department of Children Youth and Families prior to working in the program.
  • Participation in Washington's State Training and Registry System (STARS) program required within 90 days of start date.
  • Valid CPR certification including child/infant prior to working in the program.
  • Valid Food Handler's Card required prior to working in the program.
  • Negative TB test completed within the previous twelve months prior to working in the program.
  • Documentation showing immunity to Measles, Mumps, & Rubella (MMR) required prior to working in the program.
  • Completion of HIV/Blood Borne Pathogens training prior to working in the program.

  • Experience in childcare or early childhood education setting.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in planning and implementing developmentally appropriate child-centered curriculum and lesson plans.
  • Establish and maintain positive communication with families, children, and staff.
  • Supervise, interact, and play with children during assigned responsibilities.
  • Set up the environment of the room with well-defined interest areas and accessible materials.
  • Follow established plans to meet the individual needs of children, considering their interests and backgrounds.
  • Assist with toileting, diapering, and hygiene needs of the children.
  • Help prepare and serve meals following USDA guidelines, including cleaning up afterward.
  • Maintain a safe, orderly, clean, and healthy center environment, including administering first aid when necessary.
  • Participate in staff meetings, in-service programs, and workshops.
  • Assist with child assessments and observations as required throughout the program year.
