School Adjustment Counselor at Webster Middle School
About The Position
Webster Public Schools is seeking an energetic, dynamic and skilled school counselor to join its team of counselors to provide mental health and academic support and intervention to students in grades 5 - 8 . The counselor contributes to the development of a healthy and safe environment by advancing the understanding of the social, emotional and developmental needs of students and their families and has a strong belief that all students can succeed. Counselors at the middle school rotate with their grade level class through the students' three years at the middle school.
Responsibilities
- Counsels students regarding academic, educational, and short-term social and emotional challenges.
- Works collaboratively with the team of counselors to implement proactive programs and supports within the building.
- Remains universally accessible and makes an effort to know every student for whom they are responsible.
- Provides individual student planning and responsive services to support students and their families regarding academic matters.
- Teaches skills (i.e - self regulation) and provides counseling to students through planned activities in small group or classroom settings to convey educational, social, and important school information to convey educational, social, and important school information.
- Consults, facilitates, and maintains communication with parents, teachers, administrators, and pertinent agents on specific student and parent academic and educational matters including academic modifications and/or accommodations.
- Provides feedback and recommends appropriate action and solutions to individual student's academic and educational needs and abilities.
- Provides counseling to address social and emotional concerns and appropriately refers students to outside behavioral health specialists.
- Participates in the special education process as needed, attending Team meetings and providing counseling services as outlined on the IEP
- Contributes to the development of counseling goals and objectives on IEPs and writes progress reports on those goals and objectives.
- Communicates, coordinates, and collaborates with behavioral health specialists on developing and implementing student supports.
- Provides counseling services using culturally responsive practices.
