About The Position

PRIMARY PURPOSE OF POSITION: To provide supportive services to students and their families relative to mental health and school related issues.

Requirements

• MSW preferred and/or LICSW, Certified Mental Health Counselor
• MA Certification as School Adjustment Counselor.
• Strong clinical and diagnostic skills.
• Ability to work comfortably with cultural diversity.
• Experience in providing one-to-one and small group counseling to adolescents.
• Ability to communicate and work well with adolescents, staff, parents, and agencies.

Nice To Haves

• Experience working with students at the secondary level (preferred).
• LADAC certification preferred

Responsibilities

• Participates in Student Assistance, Post Hospitalization, Section 504 Accommodation and Parent/Teacher team meetings, presenting an overview of student's needs and recommended strategies for appropriate planning and support services.
• Delivers student services as determined or requested by Director of Guidance & Counseling Services, Guidance Counselors, Parents, Students and Teachers to students through individual, group or family counseling.
• Provides direct services to students through individual, group or family counseling. Conducts follow-up contact with family, as indicated. Screens all student referrals. Maintains progress notes.
• Consults with other staff about problems and progress of individual students
• Provides referral services when indicated and acts as a liaison with community's mental health and other local and state agencies.
• Provides crisis intervention and crisis evaluation of students.
• Provides emergency screening of students upon request of the Director of Guidance and Counseling Services when necessary.
• Upon request of Director of Guidance and Counseling Services, fulfills duties within Guidance Department, such as participating in Team/Staff meetings, orienting staff in strategies to support students in counseling.
• Provides written assessments as directed by Director of Guidance and Counseling Services when necessary.
• Performs additional duties as assigned by the Director of Guidance and Counseling Services.
