About The Position

Job Summary The Manufacturing Scheduler is responsible for developing and maintaining efficient production schedules for CNC machining operations to ensure on-time delivery while maximizing machine utilization and minimizing downtime. This role coordinates closely with production, engineering, tooling, purchasing, and sales to balance customer demand with machine capacity, labor availability, and material readiness.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required; associate or bachelor’s degree in manufacturing, supply chain, or related field preferred
  • 3+ years of scheduling, planning, or production control experience in a CNC machining environment preferred
  • Strong understanding of CNC machining processes, including mills, lathes, setups, and tooling
  • Experience with ERP/MRP systems (JobBOSS, Epicor, E2, SAP, or similar preferred)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and scheduling tools
  • Ability to read and understand routings, work instructions, and technical drawings
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to work cross-functionally in a fast-paced shop environment

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in a high-mix, low-volume or job shop CNC environment
  • Familiarity with lean manufacturing and constraint-based scheduling
  • Basic understanding of GD&T

Responsibilities

  • Create and manage detailed production schedules for CNC machining centers, including mills, lathes, multi-axis machines, and secondary operations
  • Load and balance work across machines based on capacity, cycle times, setup times, tooling availability, and operator skill levels
  • Sequence jobs to minimize setups and changeovers while meeting customer due dates
  • Monitor schedule adherence and adjust plans in response to machine downtime, scrap, staffing changes, or material delays
  • Coordinate with tooling and engineering to ensure fixtures, programs, and tooling are ready prior to job release
  • Work with purchasing to confirm raw material and outside process availability (heat treat, plating, coating, etc.)
  • Communicate daily and weekly priorities to production supervisors and shop floor personnel
  • Support sales and customer service with realistic lead times and expedite requests
  • Maintain accurate routings, cycle times, setup times, and work center capacities in the ERP/MRP system
  • Analyze throughput, machine utilization, and bottlenecks to drive continuous improvement
  • Participate in production meetings and contribute to scheduling and capacity planning strategies
