About The Position

As a Scheduler at Meadowview Regional Medical Center, you will be responsible for scheduling all patients for ancillary, surgical, and medical testing/procedures/admissions. This includes ensuring that patients are not scheduled when personnel are unavailable, obtaining pre-certification/authorization numbers, entering accurate insurance information, and answering incoming phone calls. You will also inform patients or physician's office staff of any out-of-network carriers or issues that may affect benefits, as well as any special instructions or testing requirements. Additionally, you will maintain knowledge of scheduling reports to ensure proper patient registration and that appropriate testing and staff are available. You will be required to obtain physician's orders and ensure consistency between scheduling and admissions modules.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required, or at least three years of directly related experience may be substituted.
  • Prior scheduling experience in a healthcare environment is strongly preferred.
  • Medical terminology, billing, and/or collection experience preferred.
  • Computer experience required.
  • Critical thinking skills and decisive judgment.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to work in stressful situations.
  • Organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to prioritize work based on patient/department needs.
  • Ability to operate standard office equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Schedules all patients for ancillary, surgical, and medical testing/procedures/admissions.
  • Ensures patients are not scheduled when personnel are unavailable.
  • Obtains pre-certification/authorization numbers and enters them in the scheduling or registration system.
  • Obtains and enters accurate insurance information.
  • Answers incoming phone calls.
  • Informs patients or physician's office staff of any out-of-network carriers or issues affecting benefits.
  • Provides special instructions or testing requirements to patients or physician's office staff.
  • Maintains knowledge of scheduling reports for the next day.
  • Obtains physician's orders and authorization/pre-certification.
  • Ensures consistency between scheduling module and admissions module.
