About The Position

Join our not-for-profit organization that has provided over 100 years of housing and services to seniors with a commitment to quality care and service in a Christian environment. Provides a variety of support activities for the Health Information Management (HIM) Department related to the medical record including scanning and indexing processes, entry of data and other general duties. Understands basic components and completion requirements for medical records. Applies basic knowledge of disease processes, anatomy, physiology, medical terminology, state laws and other regulatory standards to medical records. Utilizes job specific software in analysis and monitoring functions. Will work extensively with protected health information and is required to adhere to health insurance portability and accountability act (HIPAA) privacy and security regulations and policies related to the same. Maintain security and confidentiality of health information and medical records. Completes admission and discharge related functions. Scans and captures documents in an extremely timely manner and confirms capture clarity and quality. Indexes medical record documents with utmost accuracy using document imaging software. Assigns codes to appropriate medical diagnoses based on review of supporting documentation and ensures these are captured for monthly billing for all payers. Provides a wide variety of support activities for clinicians. On a campus setting with multiple care levels, may assist with a variety of clerical activities. Prepares and generates reports as requested.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience in healthcare environment preferred.
  • Medical terminology, anatomy and physiology experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Collect medical documents from units and ensure proper identifiers on all pages.
  • Sort, scan, and index documents into the electronic medical record (EMR).
  • Contact hospitals for missing documentation as needed.
  • Perform audits to maintain accuracy and compliance.
  • Occasionally cover receptionist desk
  • Enters and maintains medical professional information in the electronic medical record.
