About The Position

In this role as a Scanner Engineer, you’ll be the expert who installs, tests, and optimizes scanners at customer sites—ensuring they perform perfectly from day one. Join Element Logic as a Scanner Engineer and help bring our automation solutions to life by installing, wiring, testing, and commissioning industrial scanners at customer sites across the U.S. You’ll work hands‑on in the field—diagnosing issues, calibrating equipment, and ensuring each scanner integrates smoothly with conveyors and control systems. In this role, you’ll own the on‑site deployment process from setup to full performance readiness, collaborating closely with Controls Engineers and customer teams to deliver reliable, high‑quality scanning systems that support daily operations from day one. Requirements

  • 1 – 2 years relevant experience in Electrical and Controls.
  • Associate's Degree in electrical disciplines and programming (two-year college or technical school) or equivalent experience.
  • Ability to read schematics/electrical prints. Demonstrated electrical and mechanical aptitude.
  • Ability to write script programs for the scanners.
  • Ability to program PLCs and troubleshoot systems.
  • Ability to understand different types of barcode symbology and recommend the right scanner based on the application.
  • Hold a valid US passport and driver’s license
  • Availability to provide support outside regular working hours when business needs require it.
  • Must possess good written & spoken English, Spanish a plus.
  • Must be able to lift/carry up to 51 lbs.
  • Comfortable with heights i.e., ladders, high mezzanines, scissor lifts.
  • Tolerance to perform the job in high temperature i.e., second floor mezzanine in an un-air-condition warehouse.
  • Ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) (Eye Protection) when required.

Responsibilities

  • Installation of scanners, wiring, circuits, and equipment to specifications including AC/DC circuitry.
  • Examine work orders and converse with equipment operators to detect equipment problems and ascertain whether mechanical or human errors contributed to the problems.
  • Set up and test the scanner to ensure that it functions properly.
  • Operate scanner to demonstrate proper use and to analyze malfunctions.
  • Test faulty equipment to diagnose malfunctions, use test equipment and software, and apply knowledge of the functional operation of electronic units and systems.
  • Calibrate testing instruments and install or repair equipment to prescribed specifications.
  • Advise management regarding customer satisfaction, product performance, and suggestions for product improvements.
  • Inspect components of the scanner for accurate assembly and installation and for defects such as loose connections and frayed wires.
  • Study blueprints, schematics, manuals, and other specifications to determine installation procedures.
  • Maintain scanner logs that record performance problems, repairs, calibrations, and tests.
  • Coordinate efforts with other workers involved in installing and maintaining equipment or components.
  • Consult with customers, supervisors, and engineers to plan the layout of the scanner and to resolve problems in system operation and maintenance.
  • Send defective units to the manufacturer or to a specialized repair shop for repair.
  • Determine feasibility of using standardized equipment and develop specifications for equipment required to perform additional functions.
  • Enter information into computer to copy program or to draw, modify, or store schematics, applying knowledge of software package used.
  • Develop or modify industrial electronic devices, circuits, and equipment according to available specifications.
