Join us and be a part of a team that puts people first! The Scale Operator is responsible for accurately weighing, grading, and documenting all incoming and outgoing scrap metal materials. This role operates scale and computer systems, processes transactions, directs traffic safely, and supports inventory control and compliance efforts. Success in this role requires strong attention to detail, professionalism, and the ability to multitask efficiently.

  • Computer proficiency; experience with scale systems preferred
  • Willingness to learn and retain new procedures
  • High school diploma or GED preferred
  • Minimum 1 year of customer service experience required
  • Ability to lift up to 20 lbs
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and perform repetitive data entry
  • Work performed indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions
  • PPE required, including hearing protection when necessary
  • Noise levels may be high; adherence to safety procedures is mandatory

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of scrap metal commodities is a plus
  • Recycling or scrap industry experience preferred

Responsibilities

  • Greet customers and provide clear guidance on material verification, sorting, and disposal procedures
  • Weigh and ticket all inbound and outbound loads using scale software systems
  • Create accurate and compliant transaction records
  • Grade incoming materials and ensure quality standards are met
  • Direct vehicle and foot traffic safely on and off the scale
  • Support inventory control and inspection ticket processing
  • Monitor radiation detection systems
  • Communicate load details and discrepancies to yard staff and site management
  • Maintain compliance with site procedures and industry regulations
  • Perform additional duties as assigned
