About The Position

John Smith Landfill, a Waste Connections company, is currently looking to hire a Utility person (Scale House Attendant / Laborer in Hollister, CA! The schedule will be 5 days per week including at least 1 weekend day. For about 3 days of the week, you will be in the scale house, weighing trucks in and out of the facility and also interacting with the public. For about 2 days of the week, you will be doing physical labor outside. The starting pay rate will be $22/hour. The pay range for this position is $22-24.70/hour.

Requirements

• Ability to perform physical activities - bending, shoveling, walking up hills, etc.
• Strong attention to detail.
• Strong customer service skills.
• Good computer skills.
• Prior cash handling experience required with the ability to balance a cash drawer daily.
• Valid driver's license and clean driving record.
• Reliability and punctuality is a must.
• Ability to work independently.

Responsibilities

• Greet and direct all customers and employees upon entry of the transfer station.
• Weighing trucks in and out and calculating payments for customers.
• Track weight information from scale to computer system and get appropriate signatures.
• Picking litter on the slopes of the landfill.
• Shoveling/clearing our drainage ditches.
• Ensuring that incoming garbage loads are safe and do not contain any inappropriate material.
• Answers phone in a professional and enthusiastic fashion.
• Performs full clerical and general office duties.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, and Excel).
• Assisting with office duties, filing and paperwork as needed.
• Ensuring that customers and employees conduct all business in a safe manner and wear all required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
• Providing general upkeep of the Scale House.
• Ability to work in a team environment and demonstrate a high degree of tact, discretion and diplomacy.
