About The Position

Austin Industrial is a merit shop, employee-owned company and has been a provider of construction, maintenance, plant services, turnaround and specialty services to the oil, gas and chemical, energy (power and ethanol), and manufacturing industries for more than 60 years. The Scaffold Builder Leadman will construct, assemble, maintain, and dismantle tubular scaffolding or other temporary structures. This is accomplished by performing the essential duties and responsibilities. A minimum of 3 years of experience is required within the Scaffolding craft.

Requirements

  • High School diploma with a certification as a lubrication technician.
  • 3 years’ minimum experience within the Scaffolding craft.
  • Ability to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to write simple correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
  • Ability to read and speak fluent English (for safety reasons).
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

Responsibilities

  • Determines type of scaffold needed.
  • Inspects job site and all scaffold material for defects and safety hazards.
  • Effectively communicates safety hazards and mitigates avoidable hazards prior to construction of scaffolding.
  • Transports tubular scaffold or other structural material and erects the scaffold to the dimensions required.
  • Hoists scaffolding materials upward in order to erect temporary structure.
  • Properly secures and levels locking sections of scaffolding material.
  • Properly secures scaffold to the permanent structure for added stability.
  • Adheres to all OSHA, site specific and Austin Industrial requirements for the erecting and navigation of the scaffolding.
  • Performs final inspection of completed scaffolding.
  • Dismantles scaffolding when it has been properly communicated to do so.
  • Inspects and properly stows scaffolding material after dismantling.
