About The Position

Austin Industrial is a merit shop, employee-owned company with over 60 years of experience providing construction, maintenance, plant services, turnaround, and specialty services to the oil, gas, chemical, energy (power and ethanol), and manufacturing industries. The Scaffold Builder Journeyman will construct, assemble, maintain, and dismantle tubular scaffolding or other temporary structures by performing essential duties and responsibilities. This role requires a minimum of 3 years of experience within the Scaffolding craft.

Requirements

Minimum of 3 years of experience within the Scaffolding craft.
Legally authorized to work for ANY employer in the United States.
High School diploma with a certification as a lubrication technician.
Ability to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
Ability to write simple correspondence.
Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
Ability to read and speak fluent English (for safety reasons).
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
TWIC Card.
Valid State ID.

Responsibilities

Determines type of scaffold needed.
Inspects job site and all scaffold material for defects and safety hazards.
Effectively communicates safety hazards and mitigates avoidable hazards prior to construction of scaffolding.
Transports tubular scaffold or other structural material and erects the scaffold to the dimensions required.
Hoists scaffolding materials upward in order to erect temporary structure.
Properly secures and levels locking sections of scaffolding material.
Properly secures scaffold to the permanent structure for added stability.
Adheres to all OSHA, site specific and Austin Industrial requirements for the erecting and navigation of the scaffolding.
Performs final inspection of completed scaffolding.
Dismantles scaffolding when it has been properly communicated to do so.
Inspects and properly stows scaffolding material after dismantling.
May directly supervises 1 to 5 scaffold builder helpers in the Operations Department.
Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the Austin Industrial’s policies & procedures and applicable laws.
