About The Position

The SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) Technician is responsible for the operation, maintenance, and optimization of the SCADA system at the wastewater treatment plant. The SCADA technician will also provide training and technical support to plant operators and staff on the use of the SCADA system, including navigation, data interpretation, troubleshooting, and basic programming. This individual ensures reliable and efficient monitoring and control of plant processes through the SCADA system to support the overall operation of the facility.

Requirements

  • Possession of, or the ability to obtain, a valid Colorado driver’s license.
  • Possession of, or the ability to obtain, a valid Class D Colorado Water Operator Certificate, Class 1 Colorado Distribution Systems certificate and Class 1 Colorado Collection Systems certificate.
  • Five (5) years of experience in the repair and troubleshooting of electronic process control equipment, motor control centers and SCADA systems.
  • Possession of, or the ability to obtain within one (1) year PLC and SCADA Systems Certificate of Competency from the Engineering Institute of Technology or equivalent.
  • Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum requirements may be substituted.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor the SCADA system to oversee the real-time performance of equipment, processes, and parameters within the wastewater treatment plant. Respond promptly to alarms and alerts.
  • Perform routine maintenance, troubleshooting, and calibration of SCADA hardware, software, and communication networks to ensure system reliability and functionality. Conduct upgrades, patches, and modifications as needed to optimize system performance.
  • Collect, analyze, and interpret data from SCADA system logs, historical trends, and databases to identify patterns, anomalies, and opportunities for process improvement. Generate reports, charts, and graphs to present data insights into plant management and stakeholders.
  • Programming and Configuration: Develop, modify, and maintain SCADA system programming, logic, and configurations to meet operational requirements, regulatory standards, and industry best practices. Implement changes to control strategies, alarms, and setpoints as directed by plant management.
  • Coordinate with vendors, contractors, and internal stakeholders to integrate new equipment, instrumentation, and sensors into the SCADA system. Support the expansion and upgrade of SCADA infrastructure to accommodate plant expansions and technological advancements.
  • Provide training and technical support to plant operators and staff on the use of the SCADA system, including navigation, data interpretation, troubleshooting, and basic programming. Develop training materials, documentation, and standard operating procedures (SOPs) as needed.
