SUMMARY The SCADA & Controls Engineer will serve as a technical advisor and subject matter expert during the construction, commissioning, and operation of large-scale renewable energy sites (PV, Wind, and BESS). This role will support daily operations, maintain and troubleshoot SCADA, networking, and control systems, and collaborate with the operations team to strengthen the organization's technical capabilities. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (Other duties may be assigned as needed) Adheres to, supports and complies with all company safety and environmental policies and practices; ensure employees, contractors, and visitors conduct themselves safely and within company policies and regulatory guidelines. Design, implement, and oversee SCADA systems for renewable energy sites (PV, Wind, and BESS) in collaboration with vendors. Program HMIs, RTUs, switches, firewalls and other field devices. Create and review document submittals, such as network design drawings, controls narratives, and test plans. Serve as a subject matter expert on project calls, track project progress, and provide updates on project activities. Ensure compliance with all market and interconnection control requirements. Ensuring compliance with all applicable NERC/CIP standards and reporting requirements. Implement and maintain cybersecurity best practices for SCADA, networking, and operational technology environments in alignment with company and regulatory requirements. Updating technical specifications and other project documents to ensure they align with current technical needs. Identify technical deficiencies in SCADA, network, or Operational Technology systems and recommend or implement corrective actions. Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues that may arise during daily operations activities. Participate in a rotational on-call schedule to respond to emergent SCADA and control issues outside of regular hours. Collaborate actively as a team member in a high-performance, cross-functional work team environment, including operations, development, construction, engineering, and IT. Contribute to continuous improvement efforts by documenting lessons learned, developing standards, and proposing enhancements to SCADA and controls infrastructure. Take immediate corrective action in response to emergency situations to minimize safety hazards and reduce damage or downtime to the plant and its equipment. Travel up to 25% or more, as required.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or a related technical field.
  • 3+ years of experience in the design and commissioning of large-scale renewable energy projects, preferably in California or similar markets.
  • In-depth knowledge of CAISO or other market interconnection and control requirements.
  • Experience programming and configuring SEL RTACs and other RTUs.
  • Hands-on experience with Inductive Automation’s Ignition SCADA platform.
  • Proficiency with IEC 61131-3 programing.
  • Strong understanding of industrial communication protocols, such as Modbus RTU/TCP, DNP3, OPC UA, and DA.
  • Ability to read and develop detailed engineering diagrams and schematics, including but not limited to, power system, networking, control, electrical, mechanical and civil layouts.
  • Experience configuring and troubleshooting networking equipment, including Cisco and Hirschmann devices.
  • Knowledge of SCADA network design, installation and commissioning using Fiber Optics, Serial RS-232 / RS-485, and Ethernet TCP/IP.
  • Authorized to work in the U.S.
  • Ability to clearly read, interpret, and follow technical instructions and documents.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to draft technical reports and routine correspondence.
  • Ability to work effectively across teams, vendors, and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and maintain confidentiality regarding sensitive information.
  • Strong analytical and critical-thinking skills with the ability to define problems, gather and analyze data, and draw valid conclusions.
