About The Position
The Telecommunications Mechanic II position at Bowhead is designed to support Joint Base McGuire on a base Telecom Support contract. The role requires performing essential functions during standard hours from 0730 to 1600 EST, Monday through Friday, with the possibility of off-hours support for disaster recovery and emergency systems restoration as needed. The mechanic will be responsible for the day-to-day management, administration, operation, and maintenance/repair of voice services and telecommunications facilities, which include both copper and fiber cabling media. Key responsibilities include providing premise wiring for inside or outside wiring to various distribution points, determining the nature and location of service troubles, and using advanced knowledge to analyze hardware and software system failures. The mechanic will interact with Base Communications Office (BCO) service providers, troubleshoot circuit and wire issues, and assist in the dispatch of repair personnel for reported problems. Additionally, the role involves managing moves, adds, and changes of telephone numbers, providing installation of cabling, and maintaining telecommunications cable records and equipment inventories using a government-provided telecommunications management system. The position also requires performing annual preventive maintenance and inventory of the Base Cable Plant, managing hook-ups and disconnects at the piers for ships, and maintaining an updated inventory of all Navy assets. The mechanic will assist the BCO Site Manager(s) in locating communication circuits and facilities owned by the Government, and will be expected to complete all necessary documentation related to service requests, trouble tickets, and updates to the telecommunications management database.
