About The Position

Southern Bancorp Community Partners is a different kind of lender. As a non-profit Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI), a special certification designated for institutions that serve predominantly underserved communities, Southern Bancorp Community Partners combines lending with financial development tools and public policy advocacy to help families and communities grow stronger. Inspired by the principle that building net worth drives economic opportunity, our mission is to be wealth builders for everyone in the communities we serve, with a focus on low-wealth, underserved and un(der)banked populations. This role supports the lending team by evaluating loan applications, analyzing financial information, performing due diligence, and preparing credit recommendations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, business, economics or a related field
  • One to two years’ experience working with commercial loans
  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills.
  • Familiarity with reading financial statements and basic credit evaluation.
  • Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and organization.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Commitment to the mission of expanding access to financial opportunity.
  • Understanding of small business or nonprofit financial models.

Responsibilities

  • Review loan applications and supporting documentation for completeness.
  • Analyze financial statements, income, collateral, credit history, and organizational capacity.
  • Conduct preliminary risk assessments and identify potential credit strengths and weaknesses.
  • Prepare underwriting summaries and credit memos
  • Assist in structuring loan terms aligned with lending policies and borrower needs.
  • Participate in loan review meetings and provide data-driven recommendations.
  • Gather third-party reports (appraisals, references, UCC searches, etc.).
  • Verify documentation and ensure compliance with internal policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Support the preparation of loan closing documentation and conditions.
  • Work collaboratively with business development, loan administration, and community outreach teams.
  • Uphold the organization’s values of responsible lending, community service, and equitable access.
