About the position

The SBA Eligibility Review Officer III plays a critical role in reviewing SBA and USDA guaranteed business loans to ensure compliance with eligibility requirements. This position serves as a subject matter expert, providing guidance to various teams within the bank and managing a pipeline of complex loans, typically up to $5 million. The officer is responsible for assessing borrower eligibility, facilitating communication between departments, and ensuring all necessary documentation meets SBA/USDA standards.

Responsibilities

  • Review SBA & USDA guaranteed business loans for proper structure and eligibility compliance.
  • Act as a subject matter expert in SBA servicing procedures and consult with sales, underwriting, and closing teams.
  • Maintain an individual pipeline of advanced complexity loans, typically up to $5 million.
  • Assess eligibility of borrowers, co-borrowers, and guarantors to enforce SBA guarantees if needed.
  • Facilitate understanding of SBA and USDA loan programs among internal colleagues and communicate eligibility decisions.
  • Prepare SBA Loan Authorization and ensure compliance with all SBA/USDA requirements.
  • Review franchise agreements, purchase agreements, bank notes, and business plans for eligibility compliance.
  • Research and resolve complex servicing questions to maintain loan guarantees.
  • Advise Financial Recovery Group colleagues on working out, liquidating, and litigating SBA loans.
  • Train and mentor new hires and support SBA ERO I & II job families.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree and a minimum of 7 years of direct SBA/USDA lending/due diligence experience or 5 years of HNB SBA/USDA lending/due diligence experience.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced production environment.
  • Knowledge of SBA Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).
  • Excellent analytical skills to document transaction risks.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Accounting, Business or Economics.
  • Knowledge of SBA/USDA loan programs.
  • Experience with TSoft and SBA Etran.
  • Excellent PC skills including Excel, Word, Outlook, AFS, and Velocity.
