About The Position

The Sawyer is responsible for operating industrial saw equipment to cut raw metal materials to specified lengths and dimensions in support of welding and fabrication operations. This role requires strong attention to detail, safe work practices, and the ability to read and interpret technical drawings, cut lists, and measurements. The Sawyer ensures accurate, timely material preparation to keep production flowing efficiently.

Requirements

  • Experience operating industrial saws in a fabrication or manufacturing environment (preferred).
  • Ability to read tape measures, calipers, and basic precision tools with strong dimensional accuracy.
  • Skill in interpreting blueprints, shop drawings, or cut lists.
  • Strong understanding of shop safety practices.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and stand for extended periods.
  • Basic math skills for calculating lengths, angles, and material usage.
  • Communicates effectively in written and spoken form.
  • Possesses excellent interpersonal relationship skills.
  • Exhibits good decision making and analytical problem solving abilities.
  • Demonstrates strong multi-tasking capabilities and organizational skills.
  • Works effectively in a team environment.
  • Works effectively in a fast-paced high-pressure environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience in a weld shop or metal fabrication environment.
  • Forklift or overhead crane certification.
  • Familiarity with lean manufacturing or 5S practices.

Responsibilities

  • Operate horizontal and/or vertical band saws, cold saws, chop saws, or related cutting equipment.
  • Measure, mark, and cut raw metals such as steel, aluminum, and stainless materials to precise specifications.
  • Interpret fabrication drawings, blueprints, and work orders to determine required cuts.
  • Optimize material usage and minimize waste by nesting and planning cuts efficiently.
  • Must be forklift and crane certified
  • Must be capable of safely loading and unloading large bundles of tubing as well as material 40” or longer in and out of there area
  • Ensure all cuts meet dimensional tolerances and quality standards.
  • Inspect materials for defects or inconsistencies before and after cutting.
  • Maintain clear documentation of completed work, cut lists, and material traceability.
  • Follow all shop safety policies and wear required PPE at all times.
  • Perform routine maintenance and upkeep on saw equipment, including blade changes and lubrication.
  • Keep work area clean, organized, and free of hazards.
  • Report equipment malfunctions or safety concerns promptly.
