About The Position

The Sawyer operates basic saw types such as pop-up, miter, and web saws to cut planks, timbers, or boards according to work orders. This involves reviewing work orders to determine cuts, adjusting the saw for required cuts, and setting the speed of the saw and feed rolls. The Sawyer observes the automatic feeding of lumber or manually pushes lumber into feed rolls, and is responsible for stacking cut lumber after processing. Additionally, the Sawyer advises the supervisor of dull saw blades and performs other assigned duties.

Requirements

• Mathematical Skills - Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to read at tape measure at 1/16 inch
• Reasoning Ability - Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one- or two-step instructions. Ability to deal with standardized situations with only occasional or no variables
• Must be able to identify species, size, and grade of lumber

Responsibilities

• Reviews work order to determine cut(s) to be made
