About The Position

Cuts materials for projects, using various saws, under minimal supervision.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of the types and capabilities of saws.
  • Ability to interpret and translate job specifications.
  • Must be able to sequence projects in order of importance
  • Good knowledge of shop tools and machines
  • Good knowledge of different material types
  • Must have basic math skills including: decimal points, fractions, tape measurement readings
  • Basic blueprint reading skills a plus
  • Ability to read and write in English
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
  • Ability to gauge the quality of the finished product and ensure it is up to Petersen’s standards
  • Ability to operate a forklift
  • Must be able to communicate what is needed by planners
  • Interacts with other machinist and toolmakers on a daily basis
  • Must be able to understand implicit and explicit instructions and react favorably in all work situations
  • Must be able to resolve problems, handle conflict, and make effective decisions under pressure
  • Lifting of up to 49 lbs.

  • Must be committed to a high standard of safety and be willing and able to comply with all safety laws and all of the employer’s safety policies and rules and must be willing to report safety violations and potential safety violations to appropriate supervisory or management personnel.
  • Must maintain regular and acceptable attendance at such level as is determined in the employer’s sole discretion.
  • Must be available and willing to work overtime as the employer determines is necessary or desirable to meet its business needs.

Responsibilities

  • Operates manual and automatic metal cutting band saws
  • Cuts various materials as outlined on project
  • Able to recognize and maintain color coding of material
  • Keep work area organized to eliminate the possibility of mixing material types
  • Maintains proper measurements/time on projects
  • Be able to teach and train others
