About The Position

Consider joining the Pennex family as a Saw Operator, Set Up - 2nd Shift at our York, PA location. The Saw Operator, Set Up sets up and operates one or more single or multiple blade table saws to cut aluminum extrusions to specified lengths. The saw operator is responsible for job set-up, quality checks, and routine operator maintenance tasks necessary to successfully operate the equipment. This is a 2nd shift position working from 3:00 PM to 11:00 PM, Monday through Friday.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent experience is required.
  • 1 to 3 years of saw or machine operation is preferred.
  • Warehouse/manufacturing experience is preferred.
  • A desire to work in a fast-paced, hands-on manufacturing environment
  • Attentive to details and follows through on assigned tasks and commitments
  • Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's.
  • Ability to perform these operations using units of weight measurement, volume, and distance
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions
  • Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations
  • Must be able to pass pre-employment physical and drug screen
  • Must be eligible to work in the United States, visa sponsorships are not available
  • Regular attendance required

Responsibilities

  • Receives saw assignments and job duties from saw lead person, shop foreman, or supervisor.
  • Adjusts and secures ends and backstops on saw table according to specified length of stock.
  • Starts the saw and then places material to be cut on a conveyor belt that feeds stock into saws; or positions workpiece against end stop and under saw, synchronizing action with an automatically descending blade; or pushes material on table and cuts pieces.
  • Monitors proper machine operation to detect work piece defects or machines malfunctions, adjusts machines as necessary.
  • Ensures first and last pieces of cut materials are inspected for quality purposes. Periodic spot checks for quality may also be required.
  • Performs ongoing daily operator maintenance tasks which include maintaining cutting fluids with defined specifications.
  • Examines material prior to cutting to determine what cuts will remove defects and produce maximum footage.
  • Verifies dimensions of stock cut and accuracy of cuts.
  • Packs or stacks all cut pieces.
  • Informs lead person that material is ready to be processed to the next operational step.
  • Completes all paperwork associated with fabricated pieces.
  • Weighs scrap material before depositing it in appropriate containers.
  • Assists other assemblers in the performance of their duties.
  • Sets up and operates multiple saws.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
