About The Position

As our coordinator, you will develop important skills such as communication, leadership and responsibility that will serve you for a lifetime!

Requirements

  • 18+ years of age
  • 1+ years of swim instructing experience in a recognized swim lesson program
  • Recognized Aquatic Instructor certification (i.e. WSI, YSLI or equivalent) preferred
  • Current American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification preferred
  • Provide positive, high-quality customer service and address participant questions or concerns regarding the training content or certification process
  • Must be willing to complete any additional certification or bridge courses as required by the YMCA or ARC
  • Must have reliable transportation

Nice To Haves

  • Recognized Aquatic Instructor certification (i.e. WSI, YSLI or equivalent)
  • Current American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification

Responsibilities

  • Is present on the pool deck 15 minutes before and at least 5 minutes after the assigned block of swim lessons. During this time, will check in all swimmers, answer member or parent questions, assist instructors, and ensure that all instructors have put away equipment. Is ultimately responsible for a clean, organized pool deck both before and after swim lessons
  • Maintains updated class rosters throughout session and is responsible for reminding instructors to fill out skill grid each week
  • Reviews and understands current curriculum and materials; Proactively asks management for clarification and further training when necessary
  • Direct participants to assigned lane/pool space and ensure that each instructor is in the correct lesson spot (for both group and private lessons). Work with lifeguards, instructors, and other staff to adjust and move lessons as needed
  • Through being present and greeting parents upon entrance and exit, will build effective, authentic relationships with swimmers and parents
  • Maintains strong knowledge of emergency and safety procedures so to be able to act in leadership role for both staff and patrons during emergency situations; provides appropriate care in an emergency, documents all incidents and accidents and reports to supervisor
  • Enforces all pool and facility rules with respect to pool and locker room safety, and member conduct
  • Attends training and meetings as requested by supervisor
  • During the entirety of the lesson, remains both active and engaging on the pool deck and surrounding areas
  • Makes quick and responsible decisions to troubleshoot circumstances as they arise on pool deck and in lessons
  • Be able to handle any scheduling needs including call outs
  • Is knowledgeable about online programming software, Daxko
