Torch Technologies is seeking a senior Satellite Communications (SATCOM) Specialist to join their team at Pope Army Airfield, NC. This critical position will support US Department of War (DoW) missions through long-haul transport of global airborne intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (AISR) data. The role involves network engineering activities to aid DoW planning, development, integration, testing, and sustainment of sensor data backhaul systems that provide vital real-time battlefield intelligence to ensure US and coalition armed forces maintain operational superiority. As a senior SATCOM Specialist, you will manage advanced tactical communications and information technology systems in support of critical national security missions.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship
  • Bachelor’s degree in STEM field (e.g., engineering, physics, math) and 8+ years of relevant work experience; or Master’s degree in STEM field and 6+ years of relevant work experience; or Doctorate degree in STEM field and 3+ years of relevant work experience; or Associate’s degree in STEM and 11+ years of relevant work experience
  • Active TS/SCI security clearance required (must be able to maintain)
  • Experience as a SATCOM Specialist or similar role
  • Ability to obtain DoD 8140 Network Operations Specialist (WRC 441) intermediate-level proficiency certification within six months of assignment
  • Ability to complete DoD-approved Information Assurance (IA) baseline certification for Automated Data Processing (ADP) IA Technical (IAT) level III and Computing Environment (CE) Operating System (OS) certificate within six months of assignment
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

Nice To Haves

  • Experience as a SATCOM Specialist or similar role supporting DoD or other Federal Government customers
  • Field service experience working with SATCOM and/or terrestrial communication equipment at remote locations.
  • Familiarity with DoD Risk Management Framework (RMF) concepts and applications
  • Possess current DoD 8140 intermediate-level, ADP-III, and/or CE/OS certifications
  • Experience working with cross-functional teams and Government stakeholders
  • Strong technical documentation, briefing, and reporting experience
  • Familiarity with systems engineering, test and evaluation, modeling and simulation, and/or mission operations

Responsibilities

  • Apply network engineering and SATCOM principles to assist in the technical analysis and optimization strategies for AISR Data Transport Infrastructure.
  • Lead and conduct network engineering tasks within the SATCOM domain and develop foundational knowledge of AISR SATCOM network integration.
  • Develop network designs for specific SATCOM links, ensuring adherence to government-defined bandwidth requirements and latency constraints.
  • Document existing and developmental SATCOM network topologies, link budgets, and operational parameters for ground-based gateways and SATCOM assets.
  • Analyze SATCOM waveform characteristics and modulation schemes to understand their impact on network performance and report findings to Government customers and mission partners.
  • Lead and conduct configuration of network devices (e.g., routers, switches) to integrate with SATCOM modems and baseband equipment, ensuring proper Internet Protocol (IP) connectivity.
  • Perform network troubleshooting for SATCOM-related issues, such as IP address conflicts or VLAN misconfigurations on ground segment equipment, and report findings to Government customers and mission partners.
