The work The SAP ABAP Developer is responsible for the design, development, and technical governance of all S/4HANA extensions, interfaces, and custom developments. This role ensures that the technical development team (ABAP, BTP, and Fiori developers) delivers high-quality code that is scalable, performant, and compliant with federal security standards. The Lead acts as the primary gatekeeper for the "Clean Core" strategy, ensuring that custom developments are built using modern extensibility frameworks to minimize future upgrade impact.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of SAP Development (ABAP/4) experience, with deep expertise in S/4HANA specific technologies such as CDS Views, AMDP, and OData services
  • Experience with SAP BTP, including Side-by-Side extensibility and the SAP Business Application Studio
  • Understanding of the "Clean Core" philosophy
  • US Citizen (no dual citizenship)
  • Must be eligible to obtain a government Secret Clearance
  • Willingness to travel up to 25%

Nice To Haves

  • Experience leading large development teams through all phases of the SAP Activate methodology (Explore through Deploy)
  • Familiarity with federal security requirements for custom code, including vulnerability scanning and mitigation (e.g., Fortify or Checkmarx)
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field

Responsibilities

  • Establish and enforce development standards for the program, including naming conventions, code reviews, and the use of the SAP S/4HANA Extensibility Framework (In-app and Side-by-Side)
  • Review and approve technical specifications (RICEFW) developed by the team, ensuring they align with functional requirements from workstreams like B2R, P2P, and O2C
  • Oversee the development of modern applications using RAP (ABAP RESTful Application Programming Model) and CAP (Cloud Application Programming Model) on the SAP Business Technology Platform (BTP)
  • Design and implement robust integration patterns (OData, APIs, IDocs) between S/4HANA and external federal systems, leveraging SAP Integration Suite
  • Create custom Fiori applications and enhancements to standard Fiori elements, ensuring a consistent and intuitive user experience for federal employees
  • Implement automated testing protocols (Unit Testing, ABAP Test Cockpit) and oversee the remediation of performance bottlenecks or security vulnerabilities found in custom code
  • Partner with the Technical Architecture Lead and Basis teams to manage the deployment of custom code through the landscape, ensuring alignment with release management cycles
  • May manage a cross-functional team of ABAP and BTP developers, fostering a culture of technical excellence and providing guidance on modern SAP development innovations
  • Ensure all custom developments are documented for auditability, adhering to federal standards for software lifecycle management and security (e.g., NIST)
