The Sanitation Technician is responsible for adhering to sanitation protocols and implementing company cleaning policies. This role ensures food safety, hygiene, and regulatory compliance by cleaning and sanitizing production equipment and facilities. Main duties include adhering to a Master Sanitation Schedule (as needed), handling, and testing chemical solutions.

Requirements

  • Must demonstrate the ability to follow instructions and adhere to safety guidelines given by the Area-Production Manager.
  • Be able to accurately complete quality control forms and use a calculator to assist in the tabulation of products.
  • Must demonstrate the ability to follow the Yamamotoyama safety rules.
  • Knowledge of food safety systems and practices related to food hygiene, sanitation, SSOPs, and GMPs.
  • Manufacturing experience is required with general knowledge of manufacturing methods and equipment.
  • Self-motivated, passionate individuals with a strong sense of urgency thrive on a wide variety of work and deliver consistent results across multiple priorities.

Responsibilities

  • Clean warehouse walls, floors, racking, and doors
  • Clean facility building, grounds, lighting, and parking lots
  • Gather debris and trash such as cardboard, tape, shrink wrap, paper, and damaged product resulting from distribution functions
  • Performs chemical testing to determine detergent concentrations
  • Maintains plant cleanliness
  • Carry out daily cleanliness checks throughout the warehouse and areas within the scope.
  • Performs plant cleaning as prescribed by the Master Sanitation Schedule.
  • Follows all applicable GMP's for the area in which he/she is assigned.
  • Maintains related paperwork
  • Interface with all employees and QA/QC.
  • Maintain a positive work environment for your co-workers.
  • Participate in the Fiscal Year End Inventory count.
  • Understand chemical specifications and their effectiveness/proper application for different processing and packaging equipment, SSOP’s, Sanitation Standard Operating Procedure.
  • Be familiar with the Master Sanitation/Cleaning Schedule to ensure compliance with regulatory and the company’s standards.
  • Maintain the cleaning storage room, including chemicals and cleaning tools, and keep it organized and clean.
  • Add specified amounts of chemicals to the equipment at required times to maintain solution levels and concentrations.
  • Support the production and quality team through sanitation efforts and initiatives.
  • Ability to perform additional duties as assigned.
  • Maintain detailed records of cleaning logs, training, corrective actions, and regulatory compliance.
  • Establish rounds during sanitation periods to ensure compliance with the company's sanitation standards.
  • Support quarterly cleaning, start-up, changeover, and end of the production period are done efficiently, following procedures for sanitation cleaning and product changeover.
  • Be familiar with and follow established S.O.P’s and ensure implementation.
  • Maintain effective communication with supervisors concerning mutual problems.
  • Discuss with the Direct Supervisor/Manager any situations that affect the Sanitation’s goal attainment and suggest solutions.
  • Collaborate with sanitation coordinator and upper management in assigned Production and/or sanitation Continuous Improvement projects.
  • Keep sanitation costs to a minimum while producing quality products.
  • Assure employees are always treated in a professional and respectful manner.
  • Meet with department personnel in areas needing enhancement or modification.
  • Establish and maintain acceptable work practices among employees.
  • Ensure employees follow all company policies and procedures.
  • Communicates departmental goals and objectives on a daily/weekly/monthly basis to assigned department employees.
  • Cover/back up of the Senior Supervisor when needed.
  • Assist in the orientation, training, and coaching of employees.
  • Be readily available to workers to answer/address questions/concerns respectively.
  • Demonstrate excellent quality service for internal customers, which should be proactive, personalized, convenient and competent.
  • Support all audits, including product safety agencies and external auditors.
  • Report on quality defect issues and help determine necessary corrective actions to eliminate repetitive failures.
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal food safety laws, including applicable parts of the Code of Federal Regulations, the FDA Food Code, Good Manufacturing Practices Regulations, the SQF system, and industry best practices.
  • Adhere to quality standards to ensure product quality and Food Safety by following Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP s), standard operating procedures (SOPs)
  • Attends Food Safety/Quality training sessions.
  • Ensures manufactured products meet customer requirements.
  • Ensure cleanliness and upkeep of facilities by conducting daily & quarterly major cleaning
  • Make at least six safety suggestions a year.
  • Support the operation team in achieving zero incidents by following the safety culture.
  • Before starting your regular work, search your working area 360 degrees for any unsafe conditions.
  • Report and fix any production problems or safety risks.
  • Maintain a safe working environment by implementing good housekeeping standards to keep the department clean.
  • Enforce safety procedures, PPEs, food safety standards, and company policies.
  • Report all injuries/incidents to Human Resources and the Director of Operations.
  • Comply with all company policies and procedures, including safety rules.
  • Support any emergency evacuation or safety emergency.
  • Perform LOTO and PPE checks before starting the sanitation process of equipment, and enforce the program with the cleaning crew.
  • Monitor employee attendance and submit absence requests and other pertinent payroll documents to Senior Management (in the case it has direct reports).
  • Be trained in all areas of the Sanitation Department, including the Janitorial areas.
  • Ensure employee training and development related to food safety, sanitation, and specific SOP.
  • Ensure compliance with plant-wide regulatory employee training.
  • Ensure compliance with all train sessions and how to use the Alchemy software.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
