About The Position

At Sweet Candy, a company with over 100 years in business, we are future-focused and utilize both advanced and historic confectionary machines. The Sanitation Technician I is responsible for maintaining the highest degree of cleanliness for candy production equipment and areas. This role ensures product safety and acceptable BRC audit results within their area of responsibility, strictly complying with all FDA, and Sweet Candy Company Food Safety and Sanitation Standards.

Nice To Haves

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • One (1) or more years of machine operating experience preferred
  • One (1) or more years of food manufacturing experience preferred

Responsibilities

  • Perform all work safely by following established safety policies and procedures and promote safe work practices among team members.
  • Safely handle and utilize industrial cleaning chemicals in compliance with HAZCOMM, SDS, and food contact surface procedures to protect product safety and employee health.
  • Maintain adequate inventory levels and proper stocking of janitorial and sanitation supplies needed to support daily operations, including gloves, paper towels, hair nets, beard nets, soap, sanitizer, and other hygiene or cleaning materials, as assigned by shift.
  • Routinely inspect supply levels, restock designated areas including restrooms, production floors, breakrooms, and sanitation stations, and ensure supplies are stored in a clean, organized, and accessible manner.
  • Notify management of low inventory levels, assist with inventory counts, and verify stocked items meet company quality and compliance standards.
  • Collect, remove, and properly dispose of trash, recycling, and waste materials; transport waste to designated disposal areas in accordance with company policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Monitor waste accumulation areas and maintain clean, sanitary collection points to prevent overflow, contamination, or pest activity.
  • Respond promptly to spills, leaks, or contamination events by safely containing, cleaning, and disinfecting affected areas using proper procedures, PPE, and safety signage.
  • Safely operate required Powered Industrial Vehicles (PIVs), including lifts and other approved equipment, and work safely at heights when required.
  • Maintain sanitation tools, supplies, and equipment in a ready-to-use condition.
  • Work collaboratively with Production, Maintenance, Quality, Management, and other departments to respond quickly to sanitation needs and support a culture of cleanliness, safety, and quality throughout the facility.
  • Communicate effectively with team members and cross-functional partners regarding sanitation priorities, operational needs, and completion of assigned tasks.
  • Complete all required documentation accurately, on time, and in an audit-ready format.
  • Demonstrate compliance with GMPs, food safety, BRC/BARR (as applicable), and company safety standards.
  • Conduct oneself in a professional manner, treating all individuals with respect and contributing to a positive, productive work environment.
  • Maintain assigned work areas in a clean, neat, and organized condition to support efficient operations and smooth shift transitions.
