About The Position

The Sanitation Technician is responsible for the cleaning of all equipment and infrastructure in a thorough and efficient manner, adhering to the proper sanitation procedures and guidelines while following safety rules and using their designated PPE. This position is responsible for disassembling/reassembling plant equipment and protecting sensitive equipment from damage during the sanitation process. The Sanitation Technician must understand how to operate cleaning equipment and exhibit the proper use of all sanitation chemicals and resources per regulatory regulations.

Requirements

  • Grade School Level; High School Diploma or GED a plus.
  • 1-2 years' experience working in food manufacturing or similar industries.
  • 1-2 years' experience in sanitation procedures with food manufacturing equipment or similar experience.
  • Proficient communication skills both verbal and written.
  • Proficient math skills.
  • Proficient analytical skills.
  • Proficient problem-solving skills.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to perform work while standing for prolonged periods.
  • Ability to bend, stoop, crawl, reach, grasp, and work in adverse and awkward positions.
  • Ability to drive a forklift/industrial equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Always perform tasks according to Safety and Food Safety Standards.
  • Participate in safety training programs and contribute to the development of safety initiatives to promote a culture of safety.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements (SQF, GMP, HACCP, OSHA) and company policies and trainings related to food safety, sanitation, and environmental regulations.
  • Learn how to clean different types of machinery and know the type of chemicals used when cleaning.
  • Rotate cleaning areas every day.
  • Cover all electronic devices and panels with plastic prior to starting wet cleaning in the production area.
  • Use an air nozzle and wear ear protection and bump cap when using air sprayers.
  • Use a water nozzle and wear proper PPE (apron, boots, and bump cap) when using water sprayers.
  • Check after cleaning that machinery and equipment are completely clean and all parts are properly assembled.
  • Store all cleaning equipment in designated areas.
  • Follow proper Lock Out/Tag Out Procedures.
  • Work in a team to clean machinery as required.
  • Weigh all waste generated by machines to ensure accurate totals.
  • Report any safety hazards to the supervisor.
  • Use ladders or scissor lifts as trained; do not climb on machines for cleaning.
  • Label all chemicals in secondary containers following OSHA-GHS procedures.
  • Operate trash and recycling machines and notify the supervisor when they reach maximum capacity.
  • Use Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at all times.
  • Assist in janitorial duties as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
