About The Position

The Sanitation role is responsible for planning, executing, and supervising plant-wide cleaning and sanitation activities to ensure a safe, compliant, and food-safe manufacturing environment. This position ensures sanitation operations are performed in accordance with Sanitation Standard Operating Procedures (SSOPs), Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), food safety programs, and applicable regulatory and certification requirements. The role involves oversight of sanitation schedules, chemical usage, inspections, and continuous improvement initiatives, while safely working around food allergens, sanitation chemicals, and production equipment.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required; Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred.
  • Prior experience in food manufacturing or food processing environments is strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience and knowledge of sanitation operations, including sanitation procedures, chemical usage, and sanitation program standards within a food or manufacturing setting.
  • Strong understanding of Food Safety requirements, including Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) and safe work practices.
  • Working knowledge of Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) plans and their relationship to sanitation activities.
  • Familiarity with applicable regulatory requirements and inspection standards, including those enforced by the FDA and USDA.
  • Experience with Clean-in-Place (CIP) and Clean-Out-of-Place (COP) systems.
  • Familiarity with the fundamentals of Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) as they relate to sanitation, equipment cleanliness, and preventive maintenance support.
  • Demonstrated supervisory and leadership skills, including the ability to direct sanitation staff, assign work, and monitor performance to ensure sanitation and food safety standards are met.
  • Ability to train, coach, and hold employees accountable for safe work practices, proper chemical use, and adherence to SSOPs, GMPs, and food safety requirements.
  • Working knowledge of sanitation practices in a food manufacturing environment; background in food science, microbiology, chemistry, or food technology is preferred.
  • Understanding of foodborne pathogens, food allergens, and other contaminants, and the role sanitation plays in their prevention and control.
  • Knowledge of sanitation chemicals, including proper selection, dilution, application, storage, and safe handling, as well as physical cleaning methods.
  • Ability to follow written sanitation standard operating procedures (SSOPs), safety instructions, and chemical usage guidelines.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively as part of a sanitation and production team.
  • Ability to read, write, and speak fluent English; multilingual capability in Spanish, Burmese, Swahili, and/or Pashto is strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize tasks, manage time effectively, and complete sanitation activities within required schedules.
  • Basic computer skills, including the ability to complete electronic sanitation records, logs, or checklists.
  • Ability to read and interpret measurements, including chemical concentrations, temperatures, and sanitation-related data.
  • Must be able to work in a facility that processes food allergens and comply with all allergen control and sanitation requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, coordinate, and supervise daily, weekly, and periodic plant-wide cleaning and sanitation activities.
  • Supervise, train, and evaluate sanitation team members to ensure effective execution of sanitation programs and compliance with food safety and safety standards.
  • Execute and maintain the plant Master Sanitation Schedule in accordance with Sanitation Standard Operating Procedures (SSOPs), applicable USDA requirements, and established company policies.
  • Collaborate with management to continuously improve sanitation processes, effectiveness, and compliance.
  • Conduct routine sanitation inspections and internal audits; document findings and track corrective actions to completion.
  • Identify and promptly report food safety, sanitation, or GMP concerns to management.
  • Safely work around and clean equipment and areas exposed to a variety of ingredients, including food allergens, in compliance with allergen control procedures.
  • Assist in the development, implementation, and revision of sanitation procedures, policies, and training materials.
  • Order, receive, and manage sanitation supplies and chemicals in accordance with safety and inventory controls.
  • Support food safety certification and audit readiness activities, including BRCGS Food Safety preparation and inspections.
