A Brief Overview The Sales Trainee assists with new and existing customer sales and provides product support to outside sales representatives. This role supports sales operations by providing quotes and product dimension information, both in person and over the phone, while developing foundational sales and product knowledge.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • 1–3 years of experience in the building materials industry with basic knowledge of products and applications required.
  • Ability to operate a computer, calculator, and cash register.
  • Knowledge of building supplies, applications, related equipment, and/or the construction industry.
  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills with excellent oral and written communication abilities.
  • Familiarity with inventory and inventory control processes.
  • Ability to walk throughout yards, plants, and office environments.

Nice To Haves

  • 1–3 years of inside sales experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Respond to customer inquiries regarding product selection, order placement, pricing and quotations, complaints, and scheduling of deliveries and installations.
  • Initiate telephone calls to customers to help generate sales opportunities.
  • Obtain orders from customers and sales representatives; enter work orders, credit returns, return authorizations, pick tickets, and service requests; and file paperwork accordingly.
  • Coordinate the purchase and delivery of special products by obtaining information on pricing specifications, uses, and availability.
  • Manage project schedules by coordinating with outside sales, jobsites, and assigned customers.
  • Maintain appropriate stock levels on the sales floor and in the stockroom.
  • Research credits, returns, and late payments as needed.
  • Monitor back orders and help resolve outstanding issues; assist with billing problem resolution and data compilation for closing.
  • Handle special orders and advanced pricing; assist with pricing and special price lists.
  • Develop and grow professional relationships with customers.
  • Assist in resolving jobsite issues and customer concerns.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Comply with all company policies and standards.
  • Adhere to the company’s commitment to workplace safety.
  • Participate in and complete all assigned training programs.
