Under general supervision, the Sales Trainee develops industry-specific knowledge and experience required for promotion to an Outside Sales Representative role. This position may involve rotating through various departments to observe, learn, and perform responsibilities, thereby acquiring industry knowledge, understanding functional processes and practices, and developing sales techniques. The trainee will receive training and perform progressively responsible duties in areas such as yard operations, production, dispatch/scheduling/delivery, and inside sales, all while learning the outside sales function. The role includes accompanying Outside Sales Representatives or the Sales Manager on customer calls to become familiar with effective sales and customer service techniques. The Sales Trainee may also be assigned to inside sales/counter responsibilities, including answering phones and taking orders, as well as various Outside Sales responsibilities such as performing take-offs, taking and processing orders, obtaining signatures on tickets, and making sales calls to new and existing customers.
