About The Position

The primary purpose of the Sales Store Checker position is to operate the cash register scanning system to check out items and receive payment for purchases made in the DeCA commissary. This role involves managing the checkout process, assisting customers, and ensuring accurate financial transactions.

Requirements

• Must be a U.S. citizen or national.
• Meet minimum age requirement.
• Males born after 12-31-1959 must be registered with or exempt from Selective Service.
• Appointment is subject to successful verification of identity and employment eligibility through E-Verify.
• Appointment is subject to a favorable suitability or fitness outcome, as determined by a completed background investigation.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain clearance eligibility based on the appropriate background investigation.
• May be subject to a probationary/trial period.
• Direct deposit of pay is required.
• Meet the physical requirements identified in the Qualifications section.

Nice To Haves

• One year of progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates the ability to acquire the knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of this position.
• Demonstrated knowledge of retail procurement and distribution methods.
• Experience managing a commissary store, supermarket, or similar type of commercial retail food store.

Responsibilities

• Operates an electronic checkout system, makes change, and verifies change fund and amount of currency received during an assigned shift.
• Manages change machines ensuring proper amounts of cash and coins are available.
• Assists customers by answering questions concerning prices, identification, and location of items.
• Counts cash and negotiable instruments and prepares an accountability report.
• Manages the self-check-out registers assisting customers in the correct processing of their purchases.
• Changes register tape and clears routine equipment and scanning jams on registers.
